SPC Results Inc. is a private Canadian corporation. It has served as the corporate body for SAP Supply Chain Management business process consulting provided by Conrad Greer since 2006.
Conrad is in the third act of his professional career, a consulting business to asset intensive companies wanting to make their MRO material masters perform better in business processes. Comparable standardized identities allow for a rational MRO catalogue with only a single material master for each real-world item needed to support operations. Standardized structured descriptions improve search aiding business success. Appropriate data governance and data administrative processes offer enduring value for clients.
What about acts one and two?
- Act one was a twenty-year career as a Canadian Naval Officer. More precisely, a Marine Systems Engineering Officer with experience at sea in naval operations. Ashore duties were in ship refit maintenance (turnaround maintenance) with shipyard, local Headquarters and National Headquarters jobs. He also served as trainer in shipboard fire fighting and damage control. Conrad’s career took him to both Canadian coasts, National Defence Headquarters, as well as overseas duties in the United Kingdom and the United States. Highlights of his career included a tour as the Marine Systems Engineering Officer of a destroyer, an exchange tour with the United States Navy working in the Production Department at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard on aircraft carrier mid life conversion refits, and a tour in the Canadian National Defence Headquarters as the Steam Warship refit project officer overseeing five major refit projects.
- Act two was a twenty plus year career as an SAP Materials Management functional consultant. Starting in Ottawa gaining certification and experience in SAP implementations working for Canadian Government departments. Conrad then moved west to Calgary Alberta where he has worked in the Oil & Gas, Pipeline and Utility sectors implementing, optimizing and supporting SAP enabled business process. His energy industry work has been focused in Calgary and Fort McMurray Alberta, but has taken him to Houston Texas, Aberdeen Scotland, Denver Colorado, the US Marcellus Shale and Morocco. Prior to starting SPC Results Inc. providing independent consulting work, Conrad worked eight years for OmniLogic, PwC Consulting and IBM Business Consulting Services. As a keen observer with an analytical bent, Conrad has seen that poor material and service master data was the most common root cause of new business processes failing to deliver the full value client’s anticipated.
- That brings us to act three. The prime shortcoming in MRO material master data is weak item identities that are not fully comparable allowing ambiguity and clutter. Often many items in the system represent the same real-world thing but are not visible to duplicate checks used. Cluttered catalogues with indeterminate items slow business process execution, cause mistakes, raise cost and risk in every MRO process from maintenance, procurement, warehouse, and reliability. That is the problem that SPC Results aims to resolve for clients.
Conrad’s engineering and business process consulting careers have provided him a relatively unique background to take on this often ignored business challenge. He is fluent in the terminology of mechanical, electrical and control machinery as well as pipe, valves and fittings that make up the majority of the materials for target industries.
